The mark consists of a shield with a lightning bolt diagonally through it with the word Michigan at the top and the words State Police at the bottom with the Michigan Coat of Arms in a circle in the middle of the shield. The Michigan Coat of Arms has the Latin words E Pluribus Unum (meaning from one, many) in a ribbon at the top with a shield design in the middle containing the Latin word Tuebor (meaning I will defend) at the top and a figure of a man with his right hand raised in peace and his left hand holding a gun. The shield appears to be held by an elk on the left and a moose on the right, with the Latin words Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam Circumspice (meaning if you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you) below the shield. An American Eagle is above the shield holding three arrows and an olive branch with 13 olives.
Color is not claimed as a feature of the mark.
