41 Conducting an Annual National Prayer Breakfast Gathering. This Gathering has been taking place since 1953 and was influenced and encouraged by a statement from Pope Pius XII. He observed that the problems of our world are so great they'll never be solved unless the leaders pray together. Then US President Dwight Eisenhower agreed and started a relationally based outreach to leaders around the world. This Gathering reflects this effort. During this unique assemblage, attendees set aside all political, religious, ethnic and economic distinctions while pursuing genuine relationships knowing that this is central to loving God and loving others as ourselves. We are convinced that lasting hope for all people is found in this intentional response. The annual Gathering brings together historically 2,000 - 3,500 individuals from all faiths with leaders from more than 120 countries in the name of Jesus of Nazareth to join in prayer and reflection, and foster peace, unity and spiritual growth.
