The mark consists of a lens shaped seal with an outer rim and a thick interior border, defined by thin lines, containing the words "THE TULANE" on the left side, "UNIVERSITY" on the right side, and "OF LOUISIANA" across the bottom and small circles before and after each phrase and at the apex of the border and with a central lens shaped background over which there is an outlined shield quartered by heavy cross lines and having three towers in the upper left and lower right quadrants and an upward facing crescent flanked by two stars in the upper right and lower left quadrants and having above the shield, extending into the border, a stylized pelican seated on a nest feeding her young and having below the shield a curved and folded banner containing the motto "NON SIBI SED SUIS" and the year "1834" in the center between the words "SIBI" and "SED".
