Atop of the fish, is a stylized design of two people. The first person is wearing a shirt, pants, and shoes, with one hand holding the fish and the other hand elevated while holding a stick that connects to the top of the wave. The second person appears directly behind the first person and is wearing a dress and is using both hands to hold on to the fish. The design element appears in between the words "ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN AWARD FOR LITERATURE" appearing curved at the top-center inside the circle and "ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN LIBRARIANS ASSOCIATION" curved at the bottom-center of the circle.
